Before the marble splendour of Janaki Mandir, Ram Mandir held Janakpur's royal devotion in carved timber and brick. General Amar Singh Thapa erected the temple as part of Gorkha consolidation of the terai. It remains an active neighbourhood shrine on the pilgrim path between sacred ponds and Janaki Mandir.
